I recommend you start with the low-strength dose when using CBD for the first time and increase the dose slowly over time. When you find a dose that works, you’ve found the right dose for your body. If you experience side effects, you’ve found your upper limit. Reduce the dose to the last amount that didn’t produce side effects.
For best results, take CBD oil first thing in the morning, and repeat around lunch time. Many people will take a mild “booster dose” about 30 to 60 minutes before engaging in activities that trigger their anxiety.
The most common dose of CBD is 20 – 40 mg per dose. Some people take much less (as low as 1 mg), others take much higher (up to 100 mg).
Calculating the Dose of CBD Based on Your Weight (How This Calculator Works)
To make dosing as easy as possible, you can also use our CBD oil dosage calculator — which estimates your optimal dose based on your weight, desired strength, and potency of the CBD oil you’re using.
However, some people with anxiety disorders find they’re especially sensitive to CBD may only need a small dose.
The best way to find the right dose for your body is to start with a very low dose (2 mg, for example) and increasing by 2-5 mg per dose until you find what works best for you.
Low doses of CBD (less than 10 mg) can have a stimulating effect, while higher doses (20 mg or higher) are generally much more sedative. The more CBD oil you use, the stronger the sedative effect.
However, this is not much of a concern as even extremely large doses are well tolerated by most pets with no signs of side effects. This only will happen on special circumstances, but it happens often.
Instead of making a large one-size-fits-all pellet we broke up the large dose into mini-pellets. This allows goats, sheep, and even pocket pets like rabbits to benefit from taking hemp CBD.
First find the Dosage Chart specific to the product and variant that you will be administering to your pet for example. PurCBD (Product) & 125mg (variant). From there decide on what strength of dosage you want to give your pet: Minimum, Average, Medium, Strong or Maximum. If not sure rule of thumb would be to start with the minimum.

Like the CBD capsules, treats will have to pass through the digestive tract before the body can absorb it so expect the onset of effects to begin within 30-60 minutes. Feel free to break the treats in half for around half the regular dose if needed. For smaller dogs this will also need to be done as they can only handle a certain mg of CBD per lb, especially those under 10 pounds. Unfortunately it is easy to give the very small toy breeds too much CBD.
In general, as long as you’re using sage, organic hemp CBD, you can’t go wrong. You do need to make sure though that you are purchasing CBD that was intended for animal use and not simply giving your pet CBD intended for people. Humans and animals – while both able to benefit from CBD – do not have the same kinds of tolerances to the mg of CBD.
As such, if your pet is on a dosage-sensitive prescription drug that’s metabolized in the liver, you’ll likely want to keep CBD dosages mild or low.
Our CBD dosage calculator and dosage chart will help you find the correct low and mild dosage based on your pet’s body weight, and we absolutely recommend talking to your veterinarian first before doing this on your own.
Note: If you have calculated your dosage at which you get the right desired effect, you no longer need to increase the CBD dosage. Also, if necessary, due to the individual characteristics of your body, if you do not feel the desired effect and you want to improve your experience you can slightly increase the dosage or repeat CBD dosage later.
For your convenience, here, you can see the differences between the dose levels in the bodyweight dosage table.
Why Do You Need to Calculate the Dosage of CBD?
A severe condition (glaucoma, chronic pain, sleep disturbances, cramps, etc.) requires higher doses than alleviating anxiety states.
The answer is simple: unlikely. CBD is a natural product, non-toxic, and non-psychoactive. The World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested that the CBD is relatively safe to use.
Consider the condition of which particular symptoms you want to improve.
