CBD oil can interact with certain medications, including some drugs used to treat epilepsy. CBD inhibits an enzyme called cytochrome P450 (CYP450), which metabolizes certain drugs. By interfering with CYP450, CBD may either increase the toxicity or decrease the effectiveness of these drugs.
CBD oil should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. A 2018 study from the American Academy of Pediatrics warned women to avoid marijuana during pregnancy due to the potential risks to a baby’s development. Although it is unclear how CBD contributes, CBD is known to pass through the placental barrier.
Many of these interactions are mild and require no adjustment to treatment. Others may require a drug substitution or the separation of doses by several hours.
Among the few human trials evaluating CBD’s anxiolytic effects was one published in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry in 2019. For this study, 57 men were given either CBD oil or a placebo before a public-speaking event. Anxiety was evaluated using physiological measures (such as blood pressure, heart rate, etc.) and a relatively reliable test for mood states known as the Visual Analog Mood Scale (VAMS).
CBD’s exact mechanism of action is unclear. Unlike THC, CBD has a relatively low affinity for cannabinoid receptors in the brain. These are the molecules to which THC binds to elicit its psychoactive effects.
Human studies evaluating the use of CBD in treating chronic pain are lacking. Those that do exist almost invariably include THC, making it difficult to isolate CBD’s distinct effects.

You’re probably already familiar with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is another compound found in the cannabis plant and its main psychoactive component. But unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. Currently the Food and Drug Administration has only approved one CBD product, a prescription drug called Epidiolex to treat two rare forms of epilepsy. In July, the FDA expanded what the drug is approved to treat, saying it can also be used for seizures associated with tuberous sclerosis complex.
If you are thinking of choosing a CBD full form product, it’s very good to know that there is a distinction between a full form CBD oil from the hemp plant and a full form CBD oil from the marijuana plant. Extracts from the marijuana plant will contain THC, the psychotropic substance capable of giving people the sensation of being “high”. Extracts from the industrial hemp plant contain only trace amounts of THC, and CBD full form extracts from the hemp plant are completely non-psychotropic. Hemp has been used for thousands of years to make clothing and rope and seeds for food. The quantity of THC from the hemp plant is extremely low, and CBD full form products made from hemp have less than 0.3% THC which is the allowable limit under the law.
“CBD full form” is an extract from the hemp plant that contains the full spectrum of phyto-nutrients available in the plant. These are CBD, CBG, CBN, terpenes, flavonoids, trace amounts of THC, and a range of other cannabinoids.
CBD Full Form vs. CBD Isolate
There are a LOT of different types of CBD products. And each product can be made from one of the three types of CBD extract listed above. As mentioned, CBD full form contains the full spectrum of phytonutrients and plant compounds available in the hemp plant. Nothing is lost or filtered out. Broad spectrum has almost the same level of diverse phytonutrients as full spectrum, however, the very minute amounts of THC have been filtered out when creating the final extracted raw material. CBD isolate is created when a lab filters out and removes all cannabinoids (like CBG and CBN) and phytonutrients (terpenes and flavanoids, etc) and leaves only the isolated CBD molecule as the final product.
