How Do They Work?
Despite the fact many people start to giggle when someone mentions rectal suppositories, this way of application is not funny and has many advantages. Suppositories are especially suitable for patients who cannot or don’t want to ingest or inhale cannabis.
Who Are They for?
However, we should note that there has not been much of scientific research in this method of cannabinoids application.
Suppositories are an effective way of administering cannabis during the treatment. After they are inserted into rectum, the cannabinoids are quickly absorbed through large intestine wall directly into bloodstream. Process of application is not difficult at all – you can ask your doctor or find instructions on the internet.
So before we begin, I want to implore you to put the giggles aside for a second and keep an open mind. I think cannabis suppositories for rectal use may be the future of medical marijuana for many patients.
They’re inexpensive to make and store for a very very long time.
How Cannabis Suppositories Work
Vaginally as an alternative weed lube: Insert, and let it warm up, while you’re ummm… “warming up”.
As a weed lube alternative, these suppositiories allow you to apply cannabinoids “all up in there” which is incredible and seems to last much longer than the other weed lubricants I’ve shared in the past.
But let’s be honest… the “rectal cannabis” discussion is an uncomfortable conversation to have with anyone… even with clients who hire me to do this kind of thing. I hope that like cannabis itself, the rectal administration of cannabinoids loses its stigma very soon. And I hope this post can help in some way.
Let’s apply some actual numbers by way of example. Suppose that your desired dose would be 10mg, and that you’re using shatter with an 80% THC content. In order to get 10mg of THC out of 80% pure extract, you must use 12.5mg of shatter. Here’s what the equation would look like:
It’s important to keep the suppositories frozen until you are ready to use them. To use one of your suppositories, simply remove the plastic wrap, and gently squeeze the suppository out. Insert vaginally or rectally immediately , as the suppository will begin to melt in your hand very quickly.

Most regions of the country do not have a supply of Cannabis suppositories commercially available, but don’t worry – you can do it yourself in the comfort of your own home with a few affordable and easy-to-find ingredients. Here’s how to get started.
D is your intended dose, P is the percentage THC in your shatter, and the slash (/) just means “divided by.” And that’s it! It’s really that simple. You can plug any values into the same equation depending on your needs.
